Keep the Khwalo heritage alive
Umntu ngumntu ngabantu — a person is a person through other people.
Why this project matters
Every September, South Africa stops to celebrate Heritage Day — a reminder that our nation is built on the languages, clans, songs and stories of its people. But heritage is not only one day a year. It lives or dies in families like ours.
The Khwalo Production project records and shares the story of the Khwalo clan — Khwalo, Mzangwa, Ncuthu, Mlanjana — from the hills of Pondoland to the streets of Pimville, Soweto. Our elders carry memories, praises and wisdom that, once lost, can never be recovered. Each interview filmed, each photograph saved and each story written is a gift to children not yet born.
Your donation helps us:
- Record oral histories and clan praises from our elders
- Preserve photographs, documents and family records
- Host family gatherings, ceremonies and heritage events
- Keep this website running as a home for the Khwalo story
When we protect one family's heritage, we strengthen the heritage of the whole nation. Thank you for standing with us — every rand keeps the fire burning.
