Description
Vista University in Soweto has a rich history. Established in 1982, it was initially a satellite campus of the University of the North, catering to students from Soweto and surrounding areas. During the apartheid era, Vista played a significant role in providing access to higher education for black South Africans.
In 1994, Vista University merged with Rand Afrikaans University and the University of Witwatersrand’s medical school to form the University of Johannesburg. The Soweto campus continued to operate, focusing on community engagement and development programs.
Today, the legacy of Vista University lives on through the University of Johannesburg’s Soweto campus, which remains committed to empowering students and contributing to the community’s growth.
